THE EUROPEAN SUMMIT ON UNMANNED SYSTEMS FOR SECURITY AND DEFENSE
By the middle of the next decade the world drone market will exceed 20,000 million euros per year. The civil market will experience a significant growth that will be conditioned by its regulation. But the military and security market will continue to represent a significant volume, estimated at about one-third of that total.
Military demand, which has traditionally been a driver in the technological development of the drone market in particular and of robotics in general, will continue to act as a driver in the development of critical technologies.
European industrial development in this field, which has been important on an individual basis, requires coordination to ensure Europe’s technological sovereignty and strategic autonomy.
In the last years the European Commission, the European Defense Agency and different initiatives of international cooperation Europe has become aware of the importance to have autonomous capacity in these systems.
This awareness of the importance of cooperation requires a combination of positions among users, industries and the scientific community.
Europe currently lacks a specific forum on Autonomous or Remotely Piloted Systems applied to Security and Defense that allows all actors to share knowledge, experiences and perspectives on a technology of vital importance.
This situation has led us to design an event like UNVEX S & D, based on the experience of seven editions of UNVEX, carried out in Spain and Latin America, and the need to have an international meeting point to enhance cooperation for the benefit of security of Europeans.
